TESTIMONIAL - Sarah Blunden (General Manager - Hoebridge):
“Deciding to do the Manager in Training (MIT) programme was the best decision I’ve ever made. The programme was tailored around me and my development. Having worked across most departments already, for me the training was less about learning systems or processes, and more about gaining experience in managing the whole clubhouse. I worked closely with the GM at each site and would learn from them the day to day running of a club. I was lucky enough to be involved in some big projects including the Birchwood redevelopment and Burhill refurbishment, which gave me a wealth of experience in managing clubs during a disrupted period. Things inevitably go wrong during refurbs and having to learn to react in a calm way to whatever was thrown your way, was one of my biggest developments. The MIT programme took me out of my comfort zone, and I was regularly thrown in at the deep end. However, I was supported throughout, allowed to make mistakes, and exposed to every area of being a General Manager. I believe I learnt far more in the 2 years I was in MIT, than I would have if I had gradually progressed my career and will be a stronger GM in the future due to all the experiences I had.”
TESTIMONIAL - Thomas Wilson (Golf Operations Manager - Ramsdale):
“I started at Ramsdale in November 2006 as a PGA Trainee, over the next few years I completed my 3-year degree and became a fully qualified PGA Professional working at Ramsdale. I continued as a PGA Professional until we reopened after the covid lockdown in 2020. I was then given the opportunity to work in the sales office looking after memberships and golf societies and a year later I was promoted to Sales Manager. In July 2025, I promoted to my current role of Golf Operations Manager. The thing I enjoy most about working within BGL is the different people you meet daily. With the nature of our business, customers are here to enjoy their leisure time, whether it be a club member who has played golf for 60 years, or a beginner hitting their first shots on the Trackman range, it’s great to see them enjoying whichever stage of their golfing they are on.”
TESTIMONIAL - Megan Thompson (General Manager - Sidcup):
“Prior to commencing the MIT Programme in November 2023, I spent five and a half years with BGL, during which I advanced from an F&B Assistant role to a Head of Department role. The MIT Programme presented an ideal opportunity for my professional growth within the organisation. During my first year, I have had the privilege of visiting all BGL Golf sites, collaborating with a diverse range of colleagues, and gaining insights across various business areas. This experience has allowed me to build valuable relationships, contribute to significant company projects, and adapt to new environments, all of which have enhanced my skill set. For anyone seeking to advance their career, the MIT Programme is an excellent pathway and without it I would not have been able to recently secure my new role as General Manager of our Adventure Leisure site in Sidcup."
TESTIMONIAL - Gareth Hole (Deputy Course Manager - Thornbury):
"I joined BGL in October 2023 at Thornbury Golf Centre with very little experience, but the company has supported me every step of the way and encouraged me to gain the qualifications I needed to grow. Since then, I have developed my skills, built my confidence and I am incredibly proud to have recently been promoted to Deputy Course Manager at Thornbury Golf Centre. What I enjoy most about working at BGL is being part of such a supportive team as well as helping others improve and achieve new things too."
TESTIMONIAL - Paige Marie Donoghue (Events Supervisor - Sidcup):
"I began working for the BGL in 2023 as an Adventure Golf Assistant at the Sidcup venue, and over time with support and great opportunities I progressed into a Team Leader role as I was eager to develop new skills and take on greater responsibilities. In this position, I became a strong asset in leading and motivating the team, while also discovering a particular interest in the events side of the business. I frequently supported and oversaw party bookings and found genuine enjoyment in hosting and delivering these experiences. As an outgoing and enthusiastic individual, the opportunity to move into the role of Events Supervisor greatly appealed to me. I had already had the opportunity to take on many of the responsibilities associated with this position, so stepping into the role allowed me to further develop my skills and confidence. I have thoroughly enjoyed contributing to the success of events, ensuring that parties run smoothly and that every guest has the best possible experience when they visit Sidcup."
