About the role

DEFINITION: 

Under the general supervision of the Course Manager, the Deputy Golf Course Manager will direct and participate in the maintenance and upkeep of the course to the highest possible standards utilising all available resources.  To assist in overseeing the running of the golf course operations, and to perform related tasks as listed.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist in planning, organizing and instigation of work programs.

 

  • To understand and follow the agreed maintenance plan.

 

  • Assist in the day to day running of the department to maximize efficiency and productivity.

 

  • To serve in the absence of the Golf course manager.

 

  • To oversee the on-going daily work activities of the employees in a safe, efficient manner, adhering to all Health & Safety practices.

 

  • To lead, train and motivate staff individually and as a team.

 

  • To actively participate in the numerous tasks required in the maintenance of the course.  These will include mowing, hole-changing, divot-filling, bunker raking, aerating, top dressing, fertilising, watering, spraying and pest control etc.

 

  • To participate and help organise project work such as green, tee and bunker renovation, turfing, seeding, path work and fairway renovations etc.

 

  • Understand fertiliser and pesticide rates, calibrations, procedures and maintain records.  Maintain up to dated spraying qualifications.

 

  • Understand the maintenance and use of the irrigation system.

 

  • Assist in maintaining accurate up to date company, weather and all staff training records.

 

  • To operate all the golf course equipment and golf carts, including servicing and repair schedules.

 

  • Maintain good communication between all departments, management and staff.

 

  • To participate and supervise in the maintenance of all golf course operations, soil processing and general maintenance work around the clubhouse and maintenance buildings.

 

  • Assist in monitoring turf quality, including checking for pests, diseases, soil moisture and thatch levels.  Produce action plans to remedy poor turf situations.

 

*       To Motivate and lead the team by example.  Taking responsibility of teamwork situations ensuring standards and time scales of work are maintained.

 

  • Knowledge of the company policies and procedures.

 

  • Ensure a safe working environment conforming to Health and Safety regulations.

 

  • Carry out other duties as may be required on occasion.
